Development Center

Microsoft is closing its Africa Development Center in Lagos, Nigeria, according to a company spokesperson.

This decision will result in job losses for some employees based in Nigeria.

The center, opened in 2022, aimed to provide advanced engineering solutions for Microsoft. However, the company emphasized its continued commitment to Nigeria.

Microsoft has decided to close the Africa Development Centre in Nigeria,” a spokesperson stated, “and as a result some of our employees based in Nigeria will be impacted.

Organizational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing our business.”

The number of affected employees remains unclear. In late 2022, Microsoft boasted over 200 engineers in Lagos, highlighting its view of Africa’s potential.

The company also has a larger development center in Nairobi, Kenya, with over 500 engineers.

While the Lagos center is closing, Microsoft assures continued operations in Nigeria, prioritizing investments in strategic areas for growth.
