The Officer of Industrial Relations at the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, GPRTU, Alhaji Abass Imoro says the Union will consider reviewing transport fares after analyzing prices of insurance policies, and spare parts amongst others.
According to Alhaji Imoro, transport fares will be reduced if the prices of spare parts, insurance policies, and related components are reduced.
The Institute of Energy is predicting a 5 per cent reduction in fuel prices in the first pricing window of April.
Alhaji Imoro admitted that the drop in fuel prices was laudable but a reduction in fares will depend on some factors.
“Early this year we also experienced so many increments in some of the components that we use in running transport. Insurance policy has done up by around 41 per cent, and park tolls, and DVLA documentation has also gone up, when the dollar started shooting up the spare parts prices went up. We have to consider all this before coming up with any changes in lorry fares,” he explained.
