The Ghana Revenue Authority, GRA has indicated that as part of its commitment to fully implement the E-VAT system after the successful conclusion of the pilot phase, it will not compromise on the confidentiality of taxpayers’ information.
Speaking on the sidelines of the implementation with CEOs of institutions, the Commissioner of Domestic Tax at GRA, Edward Apenteng Gyamera assured businesses of strict adherence to the Authority’s guidelines.
The Authority asserts that it has taken steps to address any issues that could hinder the use of e-voicing.
” Taxpayer information has always been kept secret by GRA. We have provisions in the tax laws which deter any officer of the GRA to disclose any taxpayers information to a third party
A taxpayer information can be disclosed only when it is by order of court or is requested for purposes of revenue administration, otherwise no officer has the right to disclose any information, and therefore we will be guided by the same provision of keeping tax payers information secret,” he said.
E-VAT is an electronic means of issuing VAT receipts OR an electronic invoicing system for VAT-registered businesses. E-VAT is not a new tax, but an improvement on how VAT transactions are invoiced.
Accoridng to the GRA, the new E-invoicing system applies to both the VAT Flat Rate and Standard Rtae Schemes. By this, all VAT components for both VAT types still hold in the calculation of liabilities respectively.
