Residents Bemoan Effects of Water Shortages In Sekondi-Takoradi

Acute water shortage continues to be an unending subject matter for the residents of Sekondi-Takoradi.

Homes, institutions, and other facilities are mostly affected by these water shortages.

Customers of Ghana Water Company Limited, GWCL are unhappy with this development.

Speaking to Beach Newsroom, some residents say it is unacceptable especially when they depend on water for survival, as well as for daily activities. They also lament the high water bills they have to pay even though water is not flowing in their taps.

” The taps are not flowing but the bills are also expensive which we are unable to pay. The water from the taps is also not clean due to galamsey activities. The tap water is my only source of water which I use to bathe, clean, cook, and do other things. We plead with them to open the taps for us. “

“I struggle to get a bucket of water to bathe before going to work. I believe it’s the consequences of the galamsey activities that have brought about this problem. If care is not taken, we will suffer more than this. Government should intensify the fight against illegal mining.”

” Truth is the taps do not flow as I wish them to. Those in charge must see to it that we get served. I use tap water for keeping my home clean, but the taps haven’t been flowing of late, and no one is telling us anything.”

Commenting on the matter, the Western and Central Communication Manager for GWCL, Mr Nana Yaw Barnieh says, the water pressures are low as a result of inadequate quantities of water for abstraction at the intake points.
