GUTA Calls For Independent Investigations Into Kejetia Market Fire

The Ghana Union of Traders Association, GUTA has called for an independent probe into the cause of the fire at the Kejetia Market.

While commiserating with traders on the unfortunate incident, the Association said an investigation will determine the causes and help put in place a more effective mechanism to forestall such recurrence in the future.

It also expresses his heartfelt sympathy to all traders who lost their wares and property estimated at millions of Ghana cedis.

The Association is pleased that there were no casualties.

GUTA is, however, concerned about the fire outbreak in the market and the destruction it causes to traders.

The Association in the statement called for the policing of the market by the authorities as the best way to ensure the market’s security.

It insists that it is not enough for authorities only to collect levies and leave traders to their fate.

GUTA urges the management of markets across the country to take steps to ensure the market is against such risks.

The statement signed by the President of GUTA, Dr Joseph Obeng announces that the Association has started a process and is in talks with some insurance companies to start insuring members of the trading community.
