Chief Executive Officer of the Consumer Protection Agency, Kofi Kapito has called for an immediate passage of the Consumer Protection Bill into law.
According to him, the bill when passed into law will ensure consumers are protected at all times.
He said, consumers, have the right to redress challenges they may face with goods and services in a stress-free manner.
Mr Kapito speaking on the commemoration of Consumer Rights Day, called for sustained advocacy on consumer rights, adding that the media should aid in information circulation on Consumer Rights.
“As a consumer, you should be compensated when services are not up to the standards. Like if you go and recharge your prepaid card but do not work for when you get home. you have been inconvenienced and you need to be compensated.
The consumer has the right to safety, the consumer has the right to information, the consumer has the right to be given the space to complain, and the consumer has the right to also seek redress.
The consumer cannot be taken for granted. I want the basic consumer right to be passed first then we can move on to other technical areas like clean energy. We should push for the passage of consumer bill.”
World Consumers Rights Day was commemorated on the theme: Empowering Consumers Through Clean Energy Transitions, which aims to raise awareness about consumer empowerment and their role in pushing for a faster transition to clean energy.
