IWD: I Want To Make A Name For Myself As One Of The Great Engineers – Francisca Anseku
For decades, society has been redefining the role of the female gender. The role of a woman used to be plain and simple many centuries ago. Women were known as child-bearers and homemakers.
Today the innate role of a woman has not changed. We are still what we used to be, except we have evolved to be much more, similar to the evolution of the human race.
Women in traditionally male-dominated fields, such as engineering and finance, face a difficult hurdle but with perseverance and determination, they succeed.
Francisca Asenku, a 19-year-old young lady has the aspiration of becoming one of the few women known in the engineering field.
She is a graduate of Takoradi Technical Institute (TTI) and is currently receiving an artisanal apprenticeship in Auto mechanics at KoKompe.
Spice 91.9 FM’s Adzekyee Mu Nsem as part of celebrating women tends to give young women who find themselves in male-dominated careers the opportunity to share their inspiring stories.
In an interview with Kwame Offie, Francisca said, she is determined to learn the trade irrespective of it’s being dominated by her male counterparts.
Her motivation has been the fact that she gets to work with her male counterparts.
Francisca told Kwame Offie of her plans to gain admission into the University to polish her skill, which would propel her to attain greater heights in becoming an Engineer.
Francisca reveals that she feels proud of charting a course in Auto Mechanic because the dream of becoming an Engineer in future is possible.
She said, despite the large number of males in the field, she is determined to make a name for herself. Francisca recounts how her female friends have been scolding her for choosing that career path, and not opt for a female-related job.
For her, girls or women can become what they want with determination coupled with dedication. Francisca said, she encourages herself regardless of the challenges she faces.
