Embrace Tech-related Jobs – Women Encouraged

To bridge the gap between women and men, more women are being encouraged to adopt a positive attitude in enrolling in some enviable sectors such as tech-related jobs.

Speaking to Spice 91.9FM on the celebration of International Women’s Day, the Western Regional Director of Gender, Madam Maribel Akuokor Okine said, women should endeavour to take up jobs in male-dominated areas.

According to her, with the right information and education women can achieve more when exposed to opportunities, to break the barriers in order of ensuring gender parity.

She called for unity amongst women to enable the vision of breaking barriers to become materialised.

” To a large extent with the beginning of the celebration of International Women’s Day till date, we can say that yes, we have broken some biases but then there are a lot more for us to break, and that can only be done when we work together as women.

Women need continuous schooling because most people are not aware of issues that would confront them when they enter into the male-dominated field. So continuous education with the various stakeholders for them to also educate the girls to know that these are the opportunities that exist and what they can also benefit from venturing into such fields will go a long way to help them,” Madam Okine noted.

Madam Okine mentioned that women should focus on how to use technology to solve issues confronting women.

She also called for the encouragement of young women to get involved in Science, Technology Mathematics, and Engineering (STEM) programs.

She nonetheless noted that the government is ready to support such young women to go far in achieving their dreams.

Madam Okine remarked that” International women’s day is here to celebrate women and recognize their roles in our societies. Women should embrace themselves for better opportunities to contribute to developmental efforts.

The theme aims for women to use technology and innovation to address inequality issues, and to encourage young girls to venture into the STEM field.”
