The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) is urging President Akuffo Addo to intervene in providing innovative ways of widening the tax net rather than charging additional taxes that overburden businesses.
The Association believes the government’s plans to introduce a 2.5 sustainability levy and 20 excise duty per cent on beverage companies which may cause a lot of businesses to collapse.
” There’s a bill before Parliament on the growth sustainability level of 2.5 per cent. This is an additional tax that is going to be burdened on the industry. We also got excise duty bills which essentially are proposing to introduce about a 20 per cent levy on beverage companies that actually increase the levy on bottled water from 17.5 to 20 per cent. “He said.
Mr Tsonam Cleanse Akpeloo, Chairman of AGI made the call ahead of the President’s State of the Nation’s Address tomorrow, March 8, 2023.
