Minority And Other Stakeholders Advised Not to Take Entrenched Positions On Electoral Commission Proposed CI

Minister of State Designate at the office of the President in charge of Local Government and Decentralisation, OB Amoah has appealed to the Minority and stakeholders to channel all proposals regarding the EC’s proposed Constitutional Instruments (CI) to the appropriate authority.

He said having an entrenched position doesn’t augur well for the democracy of the country.

Speaking to the media, Mr.Amoah said the way forward is to get the CI passed and the modalities addressed so no one is disenfranchised.

MP for South Dayi, Rockson Dafeamekpor said the EC should listen to voices of reasoning and amend the CI so that no Ghanaian is disenfranchised in the proposed CI.

He said in writing the law the EC must be mindful of those in the hinterland.

” The electoral commission should go back and listen to the reason that we are giving her or as an institution listens to the reason we are giving you. Why are they not asking the passport office the number of passports they have issued to 18-year-olds between December 8 and now which can be relied on?

I’m not worried about NIA’s work because the NIAs document is a worthy requirement so tell me why you think that a passport that states my age, my nationality, and my place of birth with my photograph is not sufficient to identify me for purposes of no registration,” He said.

The Director of Electoral processes at the EC, Dr. Serebour Quaicoo expressed confidence in the guarantor system of the National Identification Authority.

He called on Ghanaians to support the EC to produce credible voters.
