The General Manager of Kantanka, Francis Kudjordjie, has acknowledged the investments which should have been long invested into technical education was not done because it is the “most expensive training”.
Speaking during the Technology and Innovation Fair launched by Takoradi Technical University on February 28th 2023 with the theme “Think Smart, Be Innovative and Create Wealth” Francis Kudjordjie made justifications of the money inflows in the technical universities, stating that training someone to have skills that yields the production of self-employment on the trainee’s part, transactory factor of knowledge and service acquired by the person and also broadens technical job recruitment.
He however lauded the reformative policies.
made by the government to build up technical and vocational education in Ghana over the years and further encouraged tertiary institutions to adopt programs that give students requisite skills they would need in the future.
“The amount of money you will need to train that person can train four or five at the grammar site”, he said in the statement, noting that the financing factor served as a deterrent to government in the past to invest in technical education.
Mr. Francis Kudjordjie asserted that technical and vocational education is what builds every nation as it stems development in countries.
“If you fail to invest in them, your country is not going to develop”, he said in the statement.
On his part the Vice Chancellor of TTU Rev. Frank Eshun acclaimed that the unemployment situation in the country is partly being created by some public universities.
He admonished that the university regulators should consider programs at the tertiary institutes that include technical education to inculcate tech-based experiences for students to grasp skills that will help them in future
He also urged that we all “focus on what we get our wards into studying at tertiary institutions”, which he geared towards the students’ being innovated in technical universities.
He challenged the students to continue “going up and let the sky be your limit” and said that in addition to the fair being a platform for students to be innovative, it will also nurture entrepreneurs.
