Former President John Dramani Mahama has today, March 2, 2023 launched his campaign at Sokode in the Volta Region.
This move by the President is in preparation to lead the party to the next general election to gain power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Former President focused his campaign on, “Building the Ghana we want together”
He asserts that the nation has come to the stage where experienced hands to run its affairs are needed.
He disclosed that when given the nod, he strictly enforce prudence in the management of the country’s finances.
Mr. Mahama promised to investigate how public funds were spent when given the power.
” I’ve officially joined the race to contest for the flagbearer slot of the National Democratic Congress. For the 2924 elections which I consider to be the most important and defining poll of our time.
I’m not taking this step lightly.
At this stage, Ghana demands experience, not experimentation Ghana demands togetherness and not decisiveness. Now is the time for the bravery of heart and clarity of purpose,” He said.
Former President Manama said, no one in the NPP wants to take responsibility for the mess in the economy but rather go about blaming external factors for the problems.
” Despite our efforts, the people of Ghana decided to entrust the management and administration of this country into the hands of the NPP. instead of the prosperity and progress that was promised the last six years have been perhaps the most challenging period of our history as a country.
This government has been clueless and in many ways callous. The unthinkable has happened and our country today is broken on all fronts. Ghana is bankrupt.
We are saddled with debts we simply cannot pay and we suffered the global humiliation of defaulting on our debt and being downgraded by all credit rating agencies to the lowest level ever seen in our history,” Former President said.
