Actor, farmer, and politician John Dumelo of Ghana has requested that all state, regional, and district Independence Day celebrations on March 6, 2023, be canceled.

John Dumelo, the NDC’s candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in the 2020 general election, has pleaded with Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akofo Addo to cancel this year’s Independence Day celebration and consider having an address televised instead to help the country’s struggling economy.
The actor-turned-politician claims in a tweet that the country’s economy is in badshape and that canceling this year’s Independece Day celebration will help us save money.

@NAkufoAddo, respectfully we are in hard times, can you please cancel all state, regional and district Independence Day celebrations? You can do your usual “fellow Ghanaians” broadcast on tv. This will save us millions of cedis. Thanks so much.
Ghana 66’s Independence Day celebration will fall on Monday March 6, 2023.
This year’s edition will be held in HO in the Volta Region where the President of Ghana is expected to be at the event to deliver address.
