The Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG), has announced its programme for this year’s edition of its Annual Conference & Exhibition, which is scheduled to take place at the Eusbett Hotel in Sunyani, capital of Bono Region. This is an expanded version of the annual event, slated to last for three days and four nights – the longest duration to date. The event’s headline sponsor is SIC Insurance Company.
Importantly, although this is an IBAG organised event, it will be attended by all sorts of insurance industry chieftains; including insurance brokers, insurance underwriters, risk managers, reinsurers, investment managers, industry regulators and insurance industry clients, insurance industry CEOs, managing and executive directors, chief operating officers, general managers, corporate insurance agent officers, heads of insurance departments in large corporations and the like.
The theme for this year’s conference is ‘The effect of global economic challenges on the Ghanaian insurance industry’. Therefore, at this year’s event professional leaders inside and outside of Ghana’s insurance industry will come together to share ideas and perspectives on the current economic challenges and how they are impacting the industry.
Major aspects of the event will include: the main business session on the theme itself; life and non-life sessions; CEOs’ forum; young executives’ forum; networking; and an exhibition of insurance products and services. There will also be an array of extra-curricular activities such as corporate social responsibility visits to schools, and recreational activities such as tourist excursions, drama and fun games.
The business session will address the theme itself, presented by Vish Ashiagbor, who is the Country Senior Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers, and will be moderated by William Wood of EMWA and Bianca Noshie of IMS.
The Young Executives Forum will address their personal and professional development, presented by Solomon Lartey, CEO-ASIAC Limited – who is also president of the Chartered Insurers Institute Ghana.
The CEOs Industry Forum will address the topic ‘Returning to underwriting profits – the perspective of industry players’. It will comprise perspectives from general and life insurers, brokers, reinsurers and regulators; and the panel of discussants will comprise Professor Dr. Yaw Ofori, Commissioner of Insurance, as well as the presidents of Ghana Insurers Association and IBAG itself.
There will also be an Open Forum on Implementation of Marine Cargo Insurance and Impact of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme on life insurance.
Alongside all these will be visits to three senior high schools, indoor games and a talent night; and to conclude the entire event, a dinner-dance and conferment of awards will be held.
