Political Lecturer Calls For Legislation To Map Out A National Developmental Plan For The Country

Joseph Bawa, a Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana is calling for a regulation to fashion out a national plan for the country.

According to him, the country is not progressing because successive governments over the years rely on their party manifesto to rule instead of being guided by a national development policy.

Mr. Bawa says this will help political parties to draw their manifestos in line with the national development plan.

He was reacting on the back of calls by citizens for a review of the country’s constitution.

“There should be force-able legislation binding us as a people as we come out with a blueprint of national development policy.

We don’t have any development plan, and that has been our problem as a nation.

Every party comes to power and rules with their party manifestoes. Every party manifesto should be in sync with the national development plan for the next ten years. It doesn’t matter which political party is in power, they should conform to the national plan,” He said.

Mr. Bawa observed that the lack of trust makes it impossible for political parties to work together.

He urged people should learn to be selfless and work together in the interest of the nation, and added that we learn from developed nations.

” We need to do away with the polarization of parties we would have problems with every government.

Parties must be willing to work with their opponents whether they are in government or not. If it comes to matters of the nation we should do away with party colors.

There is a lack of trust amongst them hence the problems we are witnessing today.

It doesn’t matter whether an individual is from the another party. The most important thing is their contribution to national development. We need a blueprint to guide us.

We can adopt best practices from China and other developed nations,” He added.
