We Want A Minister Who Will Tackle Industry Challenges – GFL
The Secretary-General of Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson says the Minister Designate for Trade and Industry, K.T Hammond when approved is likely to help address numerous challenges facing the sector, especially with the textiles and local manufacturing sector.
Speaking to the media, in reaction to the Minister-designate responses during his vetting yesterday, Mr. Koomson stressed that the issues worrying the textiles industries are known by the top hierarchy of the Trade Ministry.
According to him, there have been several promises made in tackling the problems confronting the industry but nothing has been done.
He, however, looks forward to the Minister walking the talk when approved as the sector minister.
” We pray he gets appointed, then we will meet him am put our cards on the table and let him know the challenges that is confronting the sector.
That’s all we want. We will be happy if he goes by what he told the vetting committee. We want a minister who will be open, understand issues and tackle them.
If a potential minister is promising to do it for us, that will be great. But we don’t want sweet talks and that ends there. No,” He said.
He noted that with political will and an open-door policy, sector players can help address challenges confronting the textile and manufacturing sector.
