Every Ghanaian Deserves Safe, Nutritious Foods” – Agricultural Minister

The Food and Agricultural Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto says every Ghanaian living deserves safe and nutritious food.

He disclosed that a greater number of the Institutes of the Council work closely with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) to ensure safe and nutritious foods are made available to Ghanaians.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto made the point in a message read on his behalf at the official launch of three new food varieties and food exhibitions organized by the CSIR as part of efforts to promote quality foods.

The official launch of the three new food varieties conceded with the celebration of the 2022 World Food Day which is on the theme: ‘Safe Food Today for a Better Life Tomorrow’.

He announced that MOFA in collaboration with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Local Government Ministry has developed food safety guidelines, which the various Assemblies are yet to ratify.

“We are also happy to note that the food safety policy has been launched. And strict implementation of the guidelines and the policy would go a long way to ensure safe food for all,” Dr. Afriyie Akoto added.

The Minister of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), Dr. Owusu Afriyie, has commended the Management, and Staff of the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), for their efforts to reduce the levels of aflatoxin in some locally produced foods.

The Director General of CSIR, Professor Pinnock Paul Bosu, disclosed that the brain behind the launch and the food exhibition was to educate the public on the need to eat healthy food for better growth.

According to the Director General of CSIR, it is very essential to ensure that no one is prevented from eating healthy food.

“Let’s not spare any effort to prevent any Ghanaian from leaving hungry,” the Director General stated.

He was optimistic the celebration of such events would go a long way to help promote healthy and nutritious food-eating habits in Ghana.

There were more than Ninety (90) Exhibitors including food manufactories, agro-processing companies, and food vendors.
