Pensioner Bondholders Re-echo Total Exemption From Government’s Debt Exchange Program

Convenor of the Pensioner Bondholders Forum, Dr. Adu Anane Antwi says the total exemption of pensioners from the DDEP will indicate that their investment and proceeds are safe and will not face a haircut on maturity.

Dr. Anane Antwi speaking during a picketing by some members of the Forum, called on government to exempt Pensioner Bondholders from the Domestic Debt Exchange Program.

“The money that people have put down which will be paid to them when they come on pension, the government has exempted it, because the government said it didn’t to impair their income.

We have said that it does not make sense to us if government decides not to exempt pensioners who have already received their pension funds and they have now invested in the bonds .

We want the issuer to exempt us,”

Meanwhile, the Finance Minister has described the picketing as unnecessary, indicating that the programme was voluntary.

He, however, disclosed that about 16% of pensioners who have bought government bonds have signed up for the programme.
