Ghanaians have been urged to support the government’s policy of One District, One Factory, and treat it as a national policy.
In an interview with Spice 91.9 FM, a Political Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Joseph Bawa called on Ghanaians to support the government’s initiative of the One District, One Factory devoid of party colors.
Sharing his thoughts on the President’s nominees to the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Food and Agriculture, he mentioned that with the right expertise and resources the sectors can perform well.
According to him, any project being funded by the government should be treated as a national policy.
He called for the rehabilitation of defunct factories and industries to help in job creation.
Mr. Bawa also observed that most of the government’s funded projects are abandoned by successive governments, and condemned such actions.
He bemoaned the consequences of such attitudes on the country’s purse.
” We need to start seeing the One District, One Factory Policy as a National one devoid of party colors. Ghanaians will benefit from it if it’s treated as such.
The government should consider revamping non-operational industries and factories before looking for investors.
Industrialisation is key in the development of a country because it aids in job creation.
We tend to have an orphan projects when projects are not completed by successive governments, and we lose money as a country, because we lack a national policy,” Lecturer Bawa stated.
Touching on agriculture, he called on Ghanaians to consume locally manufactured products and urged the government to invest in the agriculture sector to boost confidence in the agriculture industry.
” We should appreciate the work of those in the agriculture sector especially rice and cocoa farmers. It becomes difficult for these farmers to cultivate their produce in this technological era. We should be able to support their works by patronising them instead of relying on foreign products.
As we consume their produce, the government can also support the work of these farmers.” He added.
