The widow of John Kumah, the late Deputy Finance Minister and member of Parliament for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, has categorically stated that her husband did not succumb to food poisoning, contrary to circulating reports in both mainstream and social media.

Instead, she clarified that he bravely battled a severe illness for over a year. Speaking in an interview with Asaase News, Apostle Lilian Kumah explained that her late husband had been fighting a terminal disease for nearly a year after it was diagnosed by his doctors in Germany.

She emphasized that this is what ultimately led to his passing on Thursday, 7 March 2024, not food poisoning.

In a somber tone, Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, who also serves as the General Overseer of Disciples of Christ Ministries, pleaded with those speculating about her husband’s cause of death to cease as it only adds to the pain for her family and the broader Kumah family.

Furthermore, she called for swift police action against individuals like Blessed Godsbrain Smart, known as Captain Smart, who publicly claimed that her late husband was poisoned without providing any evidence to support his assertion.

Apostle Lilian Kumah expressed her dismay that someone would boldly claim to know the cause of her husband’s death without any substantiated proof. She urged authorities to hold such individuals accountable for spreading false information and causing additional distress to the grieving family.

Addressing the actual cause of her husband’s demise, Apostle Lilian Kumah revealed that John Kumah was diagnosed with a blood-related disease in August 2023 while in Germany for medical treatment.

She emphasized that throughout his medical journey in both Germany and Ghana, no medical professionals mentioned poisoning as a factor in his condition.

Despite the pain he endured, Mrs. Kumah praised her husband’s resilience and determination to fulfill his obligations, guided by his motto of prioritizing duty over convenience.

John Kumah passed away around 12:40 PM at the Suhum Government Hospital after being diverted there during a journey from Ejisu to Accra due to his deteriorating condition.

Despite efforts to stabilize him for transport to Accra and eventually Germany for further treatment, he could not be saved at the Suhum Government Hospital.
