An 82-year-old woman who had been declared dead at a nursing home on Long Island, New York, was discovered to be alive at a funeral home almost three hours later, according to the authorities, sparking a police and health investigation.
According to Suffolk County police, the woman was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday at the Water’s Edge Rehab and Nursing Center in Port Jefferson. She was found breathing at 2:09 p.m. after being transported to the O.B. Davis Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m., according to police.
The woman, whose identity has not been made public by the authorities, was found alive and transferred to a hospital, according to police.
The situation is being looked into, according to the New York State Department of Health and Suffolk County police. The health department stated that it was unable to say further because the investigation was still ongoing.
According to police, the event has been referred to the New York attorney general’s office.
The attorney general’s office stated in an email that the event is being investigated and added that it was “This is an awful situation that caused unnecessary trauma for the impacted resident and her loved ones”.
Similar circumstances were recently reported in Lowa, where authorities claimed a 66-year-old lady was discovered breathing inside a body bag in December 2022 after being declared dead.
