To improve the professionalism of their service, freight forwarders have been requested to operate within the recently approved tariffs agreed upon with the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA).
The new rates, which went into effect on January 1, 2023, are meant to help importers and exporters plan their operations as well as assess the cost of doing business in the nation and provide price predictability for the ensuing two (2) years.
The Ghana Shippers’ Authority Regulation, 2012, (L.1.2190) mandates the GSA to negotiate charges of Shipping Service Providers on behalf of shippers.
The GIFF’s first vice president, Mr. Paul Kobina Mensah, made the appeal during a conversation.
“Any rate that is not published on the GSA website does not apply, and I urge all Freight Forwarders to adhere to the approved rates only” Mr Mensah noted.
The GSA’s Head of Freight and Logistics, Mr. Fred Asiedu Dartey, said that all sides benefited from the way the discussions were conducted. Shippers should make careful not to pay more than the prices that have been extensively disclosed, he continued.
