The Coffee Federation of Ghana has described the fall in prices of coffee on the international market as a big blow to the sector.
It says this should serve as a wake-up call for government to pay more attention to the industry.
President of the Federation, Dr. Nathaniel Nsakoo in an interview said the cost of farming has shot up due to the economic situation in the country therefore a boost in domestic consumption will go a long way to help the industry, and prevent the country from depending wholly on the international market.
He also called for more investment in the sector adding that proper recognition must be given for coffee from Ghana.
He was hopeful that their meeting with COCOBOD this week will address the issue and help them strategize for the future.
“We have some ideas based on which the government can try to come to consensus to move it forward so by the close of this week, we would have held that meeting and come out with some practical solutions that we will communicate to our membership and ensure that at least we put some plans in place.” He said.
He added that members of the coffee federation has been trained on post harvest losses to ensure the quality of coffee is not compromised.
