The Technical Committee of the Ministry of Finance and individual bondholders will have its first meeting today Thursday, January 19 at the Ministry.
Minister of Finance Ken Ofori Atta says the technical committee will look into the concerns of the individual bondholders and the position of the government on the domestic debt exchange program.
Addressing the media, after meeting some members of the forum at the Ministry of Finance in Accra.
He said, “As we look at policy, I am to make sure that individuals are taken care of. So the engagement would be continued to make sure that you all understand where we are and what we have to do and to do forward. The technical committee need to be set up and we do await on your two members that you send to us and we should have the first meeting tomorrow.
It’s important we signal to the country that we can and indeed work within our limitations”.
Lawyer for the Individual Bondholders, Martin Kpebu says the meeting set up of the technical committee over the issue is a good start.
“The Minister has agreed to sit down and look at how to find space in the budget .It’s a good start,” Mr. Kpebu said.
