Ghanaian actor and politician, John Dumelo, has entered the discussion about the rising cost of dialysis treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
He emphasized the importance of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) covering dialysis procedures.
Dumelo’s comments follow a widely circulated image on social media showing a 101 percent increase in the price of dialysis, from GH¢380 to GH¢765.
In a tweet, the aspiring Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, representing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), questioned why dialysis treatment is not part of the NHIS, stating that it is both necessary and feasible to include it.
“Dialysis treatment should be included under the NHIS. It can be done,” he posted.
