The GPRTU Secretary at the Sekondi Taxi Station, Theophilus Essoun says, drivers would appreciate it more if government ensures that fuel prices are further reduced.
Mr Essoun made this statement in an interview after his outfit started the implementation of the 15.3 percent reduction in transport fares as announced by the GPRTU.
He mentioned that currently they are working with the new fares, and he urged his colleague drivers to do the same.
According to him, prices of car spare parts, and engine oil have not witnessed any significant drop, and are left with no option but to adhere to the directive.
Mr. Essoun pleaded with the government to reduce the prices of petroleum products in order for the transport business to improve.
“Our leaders in Accra gave a directive that we reduce the transport fares by 15.3 percent as there’s been a reduction in fuel prices. We, drivers at the Sekondi taxi station thought it through and we have done exactly that. Even though prices of components like engine oil amongst others are still high we have heeded to the instructions.
We have complied, and so we urge our colleagues to follow suit. But for us, we wish the fuel prices would come down further so that our transport business can flourish,” He said.
