Western Region Chapter Of GPRTU Yet To Release New Transport Price List

Western Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, Joseph Simmons Cudjoe says, the leadership of the Union is working to provide a new price list to all transport terminals in the Metropolis.

This comes after the announcement of a 15.3 percent reduction in transport fares by the Union effective today, December, 19.

Despite the announcement, some drivers are charging the old fares which do not sit well with passengers.

Mr.Simmons Cudjoe in an interview with Spice FM, mentions that the price list will serve as a guide to all drivers as well as commuters to avoid cheating. He urged passengers to report drivers who charge old fares to the appropriate authorities.

He urged drivers to adhere to the directives put in place by the leadership of the Union.

” We are to start implementing the new pricing today Monday. The price list would serve as a guide to all GPRTU drivers to know how much a passenger is to pay. We were informed of this development last Friday, and we are working on the new price list.

All GPRTU branches will get a copy of the list. No driver is to charge the old fare, and I want to tell the passengers to report drivers who go contrary to these directives to the Union leaders,” Mr. Cudjoe mentioned.

He, however, hints that the Union will not hesitate to increase transport fares should fuel prices see an adjustment in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the GPRTU, Abass Imoro said, the refusal by some commercial drivers to compile with the recent directive on transport reduction is absurd and intolerable.

He said drivers cannot pretend they are ignorant about the reduction of transport fares following the steady reduction in fuel prices at the pumps.

Mr. Imoro was upset about the misunderstanding between drivers and passengers over the new 15.3 percent reduction in transport fares charged to drivers including transport owners to respect the recent adjustment.

While, urging passengers to exercise restraint ,Mr. I’m pro hinted on plans to consult allied unions to enforce the new directive.
