Transport Ministry In Talks With Stakeholders To Reduce Fares

The Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah says there are ongoing talks with transport operators to reduce fares.

This assurance came after Majority of Chief Whip, Frank Annor Dompreh raised concerns about the situation where the ex-pump petroleum prices are going down and driver unions are hesitant to reduce fares.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament during the approval of the budget estimate for the Ministry, he charged the Minister to take action.

Meanwhile, sector Minister Kwaku Asiamah disclosed that engagements are underway to ensure transport operators reduce their fares.

Fuel Prices have declined by about 5 cedis per liter since transport fares were increased six weeks ago. At the time, petrol was selling at an average of 17 Ghana cedis 99 pesewas while diesel traded at an average of 23 Ghana cedis 49 pesewas per litre.

Currently, petrol is trading at an average of 15 cedis 16 pesewas.
