World Bank Seeks Additional $150 Million Support For Pro-Poor Support Program For Ghana
The World Bank is seeking to add an additional 150 million dollars to support the Second phase of the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project, GPSNP.
The GPSNP is a pro-poor intervention that is jointly implemented by the Local Government Ministry and the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection.
According to the World Bank, the move is to increase the Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty, LEAP benefits, its coverage and also to reach other important social protection programmes.
World Bank Country Director for Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, Pierre Laporte said it is estimated that about one million Ghanaians could fall into poverty by 2050 as a result of Climate change, hence the need to leverage on technology to build a robust system.
He was speaking at the GPSNP Learning event in Accra, on the theme, leveraging digitization for effective social protection delivery, the Ghana case study.
Minister Designate of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Lariba Zuweira Abudu said the first phase of PS has chalked successes as the programme now covers more than three hundred and forty-five thousand households.
A Deputy Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Collins Ntim said there is the need to increase awareness among stakeholders within the Fintech and digital space, while soliciting their commitments to support digital solutions for an effective social protection delivery system.
