Seek Broader Consultation On Debt Exchange Program – ISSER To Government
The Institute of Statistical, Social, and Economic Research, (ISSER) says there is a need for broader consultation on the debt exchange program that was launched by the Minister of Finance Ken Ofori Atta, a few days ago.
This the Institute noted is imperative as the program seeks to touch the funds of the people.
Director of ISSER, Professor Peter Quartey said that is the only way to ensure a successful debt restructuring exercise to restore confidence in the economy. He said employing such measures at this juncture will help accelerate the country’s recovery effort and avert such occurrences in the future.
” We have to deepen its consultation with key stakeholders. Government ought to communicate clearly what the debt exchange and IMF program is. They need to spell out the strengths , weaknesses. All of these have to be communicated, and I believe it requires all of us to be receptive to some of these information.” He said.
He said, although introduced several revenue measures excepted to help the economic recovery process.
Professor Quartey added that it is important that some of them are looked at keenly to get the maximum benefits from them.
