Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly Dedicated To Pursue Value Addition To Agricultural Produce

The Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly has awarded outstanding farmers at the 38th Edition National Farmers’ Day celebration pledging to ensure farmers and fishers add value to their produce.

The theme for the celebration is “Accelerating Agricultural Development through Value Addition” focuses on ensuring farmers add value to their food crops before exporting.

 The observance of the Farmers’ Day is to recognise and celebrate the contributions of farmers and fishers in the country.

Municipal Best Poultry Farmer, Municipal Best Aquaculture Farmer, Municipal Best Vegetable Farmer, Municipal Best Institution, First Runner -Up ,Best Extension Officer were among the prize categories.

Speaking at the ceremony, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Kojo Acquah observed that adding value to food crops helps to preserve it for a long period of time.

He adds that value addition also enhances the creation of jobs in the country.

Mr. Acquah remarked that as part of championing value addition to food crops, the Assembly has trained about 326 females to process raw food crops into semi-finished and finished goods.
This he says, has created employment for females which goes a long way to generate revenue to boost the local economy.

Among the farmers, John Aseidu won the Municipal Best Farmer, Julius A Arkuaj as the Municipal Best Poultry Farmer, Dr George Nianda as the Municipal Best Aquaculture Farmer, Prince Micheal Hinson as the Municipal Best Vegetable Farmer, 2BN as the Municipal Best Institution, Rosemond Akua Afful as the First Runner -Up and Philip Archer as the Best Extension Officer, repsectively.

Mr. John Aseidu, the Municipal Best Farmer told Beach Newsroom that the award would motivate him to work harder as the farming occupation has made him independent and self-employed.

He advised the youth to pursue farming as a career rather than seeking alternative white-collar jobs, emphasising that “a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”

Farmers who won prizes received tricycles, mist blowers, knapsack sprayers, cutlasses, Wellington boots, wheelbarrows, fridges and freezers.
