Jewellers Association

The Jewellers Association of Ghana has expressed concern about the unfair trade practice that is impeding the ability of it’s members to export their works through the courier companies.

According to President of the Association, Jonathan Ababio, jewelers use courier services companies to import precious and semi-precious items for production.

Mr. Ababio said this at the 2022 Gold Statement Conference in Accra while calling for a balance in unfair trade practices.

He touched on some suggestions made by the Association to government to deal with the depreciation of the cedi and added that they will use every platform to advocate for the 5 percent retention policy which was included in the gold value addition document.

He believes that policy when implemented could be a game changer for the jewelry industry.

Speaking at the 2022 Gold Statement Conference Exhibition in Accra, Paramount Chief of Assin Awerenkyi Nana Prah Agyinsam said Ghana cannot continue to pay lip service to value addition to the country’s minerals.

The conference was themed; Showcasing the unique craftsmanship and authentic Ghanaian handmade jewelry.
