The Sekondi High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the nationality of Dorcas Affo-Toffey, mother of Ghanaian musician Fantana and NDC Member of Parliament for Jomoro.
The court held that Dorcas Toffey was validly elected by the good people of Jomoro and qualifies to be in parliament.
The court presided by Justice Dr. Richmond Osei Kyere dismissed the petition and declared the MP eligible on grounds that she lost her Ivorian citizenship at the very time she acquired her Ghanaian Citizenship.
Expressing her delight at the ruling, Dorcas Affo-Toffey in a post on Facebook expressed appreciation to a number of individuals including H.E John Dramani Mahama, Uncle Kofi Totobi Quakyi and the NDC legal team most especially lawyer Godwin Kudzo Tameklo for their unflinching support.
She wrote;
“At long last, the frivolous petition challenging my nationality as a member of parliament for the good people of Jomoro has accordingly been dismissed by the Sekondi high court today.
This two-year battle was only to distract me from performing my parliamentary duties.
I’m grateful to H.E John Dramani Mahama, Uncle Kofi Totobi Quakyi and the NDC legal team most especially lawyer Godwin Kudzo Tameklo for their unflinching support. I would also extend my profound gratitude to the minority caucus in parliament, All NDC executives at the National, Regional, Constituency and Branch levels and the good people of Jomoro and the entire NDC fraternity for their prayers and encouragement. #TogetherWeCan”
