The Western Regional Chairman of the opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Kojo Toku, has bemoaned the slow pace of development in the Western Region. Mr Toku blamed the successive government for not ensuring the region benefits from inputs towards the national economy.
” Some of the government appointees over the years have not been of help to the region, however, some have done well. The region has not attained so much in terms of development the region. Sometimes, I wonder if our leaders think about the indigenes and the region when they acquire important positions or they think about themselves only?” Chairman Toku said.
Mr Toku in an interview with Spice FM says the region is lagging in terms of development.
According to him, the region contributes a lot towards the development of the economy but the region has nothing to show for its contribution.
” For a long time, the Western Region is lagging. All over the political dispensation, the region’s progress is far behind. I have realised that road construction in the region is very expensive. The amount of money, the government would use to construct roads in other regions would require more in the Western region,” He said.
He, notwithstanding, appealed for better development for the people of the Western Region.
Chairman Toku touching on illegal mining otherwise known as galamsey, noted that the government has failed in the fight against galamsey because some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are involved in such menace but are not punished but rather protected by armed men.
He called for the involvement of the Association of Small-scale miners to help in the fight against galamsey.
He observed it’s about time leaders appointed to represent the region remain loyal and work hard to see the betterment of the region.
