Gerard Piqué to retire on Saturday’s game against Almería
“I want to tell you that I’ve decided that now is the time to bring this journey to its end’, said Piqué.
In a video posted on social media, Gerard Piqué Bernabeu has announced his retirement from football.
This season, with young defenders like, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christiansen, and Marcos Alonso added to the Barcelona squad, the 35year old has struggled to be a regular starter despite the team being coached by a former playmate.
In most cases, players in his age range will seek comfort in the MLS or the Chinese league to play for money for sometime then retire; but that wasn’t the case for the Catalonian.
In his post, he added: I have always said that there would not be any other team after Barca. And that’s how it will be. This Saturday’s game will be my last at Camp Nou.
Gerard Piqué joined Barcelona at a tender age, but started his professional career in 1997. In 2004, he joined Manchester United but went on loan at Real Zaragoza within 2006 and 2007. Piqué returned to Barcelona in 2008.

He also helped Spain to win: 1 FIFA World Cup (2010), UEFA European Championship (2012), UEFA European Under-19 Championship (2006).
From his previous conversations on his intention of him being Barcelona President one day, it is foreshowed that he will return to Barcelona.
