Son Heung-Min to undergo facial surgery, likely to miss FIFA World Cup
Son’s availability for the World Cup is seriously in doubt, with South Korea set to commence their tournament against Uruguay in just 22 days.
During Spurs game with Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday night, he sustained head injury in an arial duel with Chancel Mbemba and was later substituted with Yves Bisoumma.
In a statement on the Tottenham Hotspur’s official website, Spurs said:
“We can confirm that Son Heung-min will undergo surgery to stabilize a fracture around his left eye.
“Following an surgery, Son will commence rehabilitation with our medical staff, and we shall update supporters further in due course.”
Injury reports on players is a bliss as well as a curse for football teams and fans.
Whilst football fans or teams worry about a key player missing out on important match or competition through injury, rivalry fans are relieved that a key threat to their team won’t be available.
This event doesn’t look good for Son and Spurs, but for Ghanaians, it’s a blessing in disguise.
