The month of October has been dedicated to creating awareness of the signs, symptoms and prevention of breast cancer.

Statistics from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), indicates that breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women.
Black women, nonetheless, die from breast cancer at a higher rate than White women.

It’s most likely to affect women over the age of 50. Though rare, men can also develop breast cancer.

However, breast cancer is most often diagnosed in adults over the age of 50, but it can occur at any age.

The breast cancer screening event is the second edition organised for women and young ladies within the Metropolis and its environs.

Giving the statistics of people who turn up for the screening, the Nurse Manager of Bethel Methodist Medical Center, Philomina Kronziah states that a total of 163 people got screened.

Out of this number, two were males and the rest were females.

14 persons were detected with abnormalities with regards to breast cancer.

5 out of 14 have been recommended to undergo a mammogram whilst 9 were asked to go for a breast scan.

According to her, results from the referrals would determine the next step to be taken.
