Education Minister: Chiefs, Queen Mothers, and Others Are Receiving Training to Support Teachers

Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has announced that his ministry is providing training for chiefs, queen mothers, and assembly members in villages to assist teachers at basic education schools in their localities.

In an exclusive interview with the media on August 8, 2024, Dr. Adutwum revealed that these trained chiefs have pledged to offer accommodation for teachers assigned to their communities.

He stressed the significance of community engagement, stating, “We believe the community must be involved and support the teachers. The community needs to be aware of what’s happening in their schools.”

He observed that when chiefs become aware of their community’s poor performance in Ministry of Education data, they are motivated to offer support, recognizing the impact on their children’s future.

“This community-driven approach fosters a sense of urgency and collaboration, with government support and interventions from the Ghana Education Service (GES) being well-received.”

Dr. Adutwum also mentioned that the Complementary Education Agency is providing literacy classes for parents in these communities, beginning with the Estella community at 500 Townsend Village.

The ministry pinpointed underperforming communities based on previous national standardized tests and implemented targeted interventions to tackle these issues.

By involving local communities and traditional leaders, the ministry seeks to enhance basic education outcomes and secure a brighter future for Ghana’s children.
