As part of efforts to eradicate polio meningitis amongst children under 5 years, the EKMA Health Directorate is set to begin the second phase of the polio vaccination from Thursday, October 6 to Sunday, October 9, 2022.
The Second Round of vaccination is expected to increase population immunity against the Type 2 Polio Virus and break the transmission of the disease.
Speaking at a media briefing of the campaign, the Municipal Health Director, Madam Joyce Bagina, underscored the need for enhanced polio surveillance and proactive response to curb the outbreak.
According to her, the expected population for the second phase vaccination is 44 Thousand 9 Hundred and Four children found in homes, schools amongst other places in the Municipality.
With regards to the first vaccination, she stated that 42 Thousand 7 Hundred and 66 children were vaccinated out of a total population of 62,585 giving a coverage of 68.6 per cent based on the old population.
Madam Bagina assured parents and guardians of the safety of the vaccine and entreated them to release their wards for the vaccination when health officials and volunteers visit their homes.
She further appealed to school heads to inform parents about the pending exercise.
