The Takoradi Area Public Relations Officer of Social Security and National Insurance Trust ( SSNIT), Emefa Agonyo has underscored the non-payment of SSNIT contributions of players and other staff of various football clubs in the country.
She reveals in an interview with Spice Sports, that about 99 per cent of football clubs’ management do not contribute to the Scheme, and that makes it difficult for the Scheme to seek assistance during difficult times.
” Upon critical probes and examinations, we realize that 99% of football clubs in Ghana do not pay SSNIT contributions which is very worrying because at any point in time the unfortunate can happen to players and other staff of our teams.
Their inability to pay SSNIT contributions makes it difficult for them to seek assistance from us when they need it.” Emefa touted.
Madam Emefa Agonyo emphasised that club owners require to adhere to pay the SSNIT contributions of players as well as other management staff to secure a good retirement for them.
” It should be a requirement for all teams and their staff before they are granted the chance to play professionally,” She said.
According to her, most teams and organisations comply with the basic statutory rules, which makes the teams attractive. She further mentioned that most of the players who leave the shores of the country were not paid salaries let alone paying SSNIT contributions.
She called for engagement and education for the various clubs in the region to come to terms with the essence of contributing to the Scheme.
Madam Emefa Agonyo advised that management provide full details of the payment of SSNIT contributions of players before enrolling them onto leagues.
