The Western Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Mr George Ansere has charged authorities to help conserve natural resources and not to lose them in the name of modernization.

“Whilst we want to modernize things, we need to be careful and preserve our natural resources, culture and heritage,” He said.

His comment comes on the construction of the dual roads in some parts of the Metropolis which has resulted in cutting down of trees.

The Sekondi -Kweikuma Highway has been cleared for the commencement of the construction of a dual road to ease traffic congestion among others.

In an interview with Spice FM, Mr Ansere observes that trees which serve as shade for road users are being cut down. This, he, says is a worrying situation.

According to him, the Assembly has assured him of replacing the lost trees after the completion of the project.

Mr Ansere further disclosed that the refurbishment of the Monkey Hill Sanctuary is 90 per cent complete, and would soon be presented to the Regional Minister.

” Land Commission can confirm we are about 90 per cent complete. Our first project is to build a receptive facility and Ghana Tourism Authority has agreed to support that.

Also, we plan to fence places where people encroach on the facility.
We are seriously preparing to present our presentation to the Regional Minister, ” He added
