Banks To Use Armored Bullion Vans To Combat Robbery Attacks

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Association of Banks, John Awuah has disclosed that the Banks of Ghana have procured 60 armored bullion vans to ensure the safe carting of money and the protection of lives.

This was made known to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He said the special purpose vehicles with sirens, tracking devices, bullet resistance glass and other protective features were procured between January and June this year.

This comes at the back of attacks on bullion vans between 2018 and 2021 leading to the loss of three lives and robbers bolting away with at least 1 million and 50 Thousand Ghana cedis while other victims sustained injuries.

Mr Awuah added that a lot more such security vehicles will be in the country by December.

He said, the banks together with the Ghana Police Service also procured some armoured vests and ballistic helmets to ensure the safety of officers.

Ghana recorded bullion van attacks since 2018 and in two of the cases , the Police Officers escorting the van lost their lives while in another incident a 35 year old lady was killed.
