Pupils Study On Bare Floor In Ahanta East

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ahanta East Municipal Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Boakye has disclosed that pupils in Edwenase, Platoo in the district have been compelled to use the bare floor to learn due to the lack of furniture.

He said, currently there is about Eight Thousand (8,000) deficit of chairs which was contained in the District Education Director’s report.

Mr Boakye in his submission said , the Assembly has been able to provide about 840 chairs at a cost of GH¢ 250,000 for some schools in the Assembly.

He bemoaned the unwillingness of the Forestry Commission to give out some wood to make chairs for the school children.

The DCE says, he is going to meet saw millers in the Assembly and collaborate with them to make desks for pupils to enhance teaching and learning.

“The district office of education informed me of the deficit of 8,000 desks the in Edwenase and Platoo. The school lacks furniture which has compelled the pupils to study on the bare floor.

We have many trees surrounding this district but we still lack furniture in our various schools. I have made efforts to lobby for desks with the Forestry Commission and all have proven futile.

I improvised and provided the schools with 840 desks which cost me almost GH¢ 250,000. We have decided to provide them with extra 400 desks. It would have cost us less if we had benefited from the trees in the district.

We’ll be meeting all saw millers in the district by next week to collaborate and provide us with desks for the schools because this situation is very worrying, ” He said.
