Media Urged To Protect National Heritage

National Peace Council’s immediate past chairman, Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante has cautioned media professionals to exercise caution when speaking on the radio and, in particular, to restrain sociopolitical commentary to avoid breaking the law.

He claims that the use of aggressive language and criticism of religious and political leaders, as well as traditional authority, undermines Ghana’s democracy and impedes the country’s development.

In an interview with the media, he advised both electronic and print media to desist from attacking personalities, including traditional authorities and politicians, to engender peaceful coexistence.

He noted that when peace is compromised, it is the poor, the vulnerable, and the marginalised in society who bear the brunt.

Regarding culture and fostering peace, Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante emphasized the necessity of revisiting the integrity, respect, values, and moral principles that once continued to shape the welfare of the populace in order to address the high level of moral decadence and indiscipline among the youth.
