Ghana’s Economy Has Not Collapsed -National Deputy Communications Director,NPP
National Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Aseidu Kokuro has reiterated that Ghana’s economy has not collapsed.
“The economy has not collapsed, we are rather in challenges. We wouldn’t have been able to pay salaries, allowances etc if the economy had collapsed.”
He made this known in an interview with Spice 91.9 FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem as he spoke about issues regarding the economy.
Mr Kokoru said, ‘Ghana is not in isolation as other countries are also facing an economic downturn.’
In his view, the NPP government has been able to pay the 15 per cent Cost Of Living Allowance (COLA) to public sector workers.
“Do you know the number of workers on the government’s payroll? Six hundred Thousand public are on the GOG payroll and I’m telling you, we have paid Four Hundred and Eighty-five million cedis as COLA, ” He remarked.
He admitted that there are hardships but the NPP government is working around the clock to make the economy better.
He explained that growth is not linear in any economy because external and internal factors sometimes disrupt the cyclic growth of an economy.
He nonetheless said the government is making frantic efforts to make Ghanaians comfortable.
Asked when the government intends to pay the stipends of Nation Builders Corp Trainees (NABCO), he noted that the Minstry of Finance will soon pay arrears of both NABCO and teacher trainees.
