Residents of Sekondi-Takoradi Against Reinstatement of the Suspended Mayor
Residents of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis have expressed disappointment over the reinstatement of the Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi, Abdul Mumin Issah.
It would be recalled that on Thursday, February 3, 2022, there was an altercation between the mayor and a police officer, Andrew Sarfo near the Kwesimintsim cemetery Police snap checkpoint.
The mayor was captured on tape which went viral on social media heard threatening the said police officer with a transfer to Enchi.
However, sources close to Beach Newsroom from the government indicates that the suspended mayor has been informed about his reinstatement and an official press statement would be released today August 30 for him to resume work as STMA boss.
Meanwhile residents here in the Metropolis believes that the decision to suspend him is not only appalling for our metropolis, however, it will help strengthen democratic governance in the country.
According to them, no individual in the country is above the law and this sends an unfortunate message about our government’s attitude towards it citizens.
“I support the reinstatement as everyone can make mistakes at a point but they have to educate him on how to govern the metropolis as our Mayor because residents of Sekondi Takoradi look up to him.”
“This should be set as a warning to our superiors. We should be law-abiding because no one is above the law. These attitudes have a negative impact on our democracy and development as a country. Some people feel they are superior over others.”
“He was wrong to act in that manner because it is the responsibility of the police to ensure road safety and so this will make them reluctant in ensuring the safety on our roads.”
