The price for a 50-kilo bag of cement has increased from the current ¢68 Ghana to ¢71 per bag.
Beach Business has learnt that the product is now sold at ¢71 here in Takoradi .
The increment can be attributed to the depreciating value of the Ghana cedi, the recent hikes in transport fares which has affected the movement of logistics and transportation of some of the raw materials from abroad for local production.
This development may impact prices of houses in the short term and the personal budget of many individuals who are currently putting up houses in the country.
Manufacturers are pushing for government to take a second look at the taxes on inputs and charges at ports.
Speaking to Beach Newsroom ,Madam Florence Sankah a Block producer shares how the increase affects the block production business ,she says the market has dwindled as the producers in the field record low purchases daily.
” The increment of the cement is really affecting our business. Before, the cement prices was GH¢63.00 business was not bad. People were buying blocks but now that they have increased it again, the market has gone down.
Patronage is very limited, so we are just pleading with the government to do something for us,” She said.
