Women Challenged To Venture Into Energy And Mining Sectors

The Chief of Staff, Mrs. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, has urged women to think about careers in energy and mining in order to improve their position in life.

She also urged the elimination of obstacles preventing women from achieving equality in the mining and energy industries.

At the second edition of the Women in Mining and Energy Awards (WiMEA) ceremony held in Accra, Dr. Freda Prempeh, a Minister of State responsible for Works and Housing, read a speech for her.

WiMEA, among other organizations, aims to recognize and honor the role, accomplishments, and contributions of women in Ghana’s mining and energy sectors.

“Challenging Stereotypes and Conscious Bias: Supporting Women in Mining and Energy to Achieve Global Goals Leverage their Game-Changing Collective Strength and Cohesion” was the theme of the event.” Mrs. Osei-Opare pointed out that despite being labeled as male-dominated industries, the mining and energy sectors have adopted numerous corporate policies promoting equality, inclusion, and diversity in order to foster a more contented workforce.

She emphasized the necessity for the various boards of mining and energy firms to give women in the boardroom a high priority and provide them with equal opportunity.

Research has shown that women have a significant impact on the health of their families, organizations, and countries, but the chief of staff emphasized that sometimes their potential is not fully realized due to discriminatory social norms, incentives, restrictions on corporate governance, and legal frameworks.

She stated that while gender bias has lessened overall for most women in recent years, it still exists in some communities and workplaces. It was for this reason that succeeding administrations have mainstreamed numerous initiatives aimed at achieving gender parity.

The elimination of gender gap at all stages of education, according to Mrs. Osei-Opare, will serve to improve the status and talents of women. She emphasized that education remained one of the most crucial parts of human growth.
