Government Asked To Take A Second Look At The Fight Of Galamsey
Some residents in Sawuma in the Ellembele Constituency of the Western Region say the fight against illegal mining does not seem to be working.
This is due to the turbidity of the Ankobra River which passes through the community.
During a tour of mangrove sites in some communities in the region by media platform on Environment and Climate Change, it was obvious that the claim by the resident is true.
A resident in the community speaking to the media said, ” They have deployed soldiers to protect a river but they also need money and they can be compromised. If they have executed their mandate, the pollution would have been addressed by now. The Ankobra is polluted. Decades ago, we. were using it to wash, cook and drink.
They are calling on government to take a second look at the campaign.
