STMA Prosecutes Land Lords For Not Providing Toilet Facilities In Their Homes
About 30 landlords in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis are being processed for court by the Environmental Health Department of the STMA for allegedly refusing to provide toilet facilities in their houses.
The move is part of measures by the Assembly to clamp down on open defecation.
All landlords are required to provide toilet facilities for their tenants by law as there are penalties for defaulters.
Authorities over the years have relaxed the enforcement of this law. The STMA has however decided to crack the whip on purported errant landlords, and in the process has identified 30 landlords.
The Assistant Environmental Health Officer in charge of analysis at STMA, Aaron Quansah notes that the Assembly would do everything in its power to eradicate the menace of open defecation.
He says, the STMA through the Twin City In Sustainable Partnership Project (TCISPP) will assist some landlords with the requisite financial support to provide toilet facilities for their tenants.
Mr Quansah advised landlords and ladies to take advantage of the project to make their requests since it is unlawful to put up residential apartments without making provision for a toilet facility.
